Excellent condition no chips or cracks. Kathi Urbach was an aspiring singer in the 1940s who married a UCLA physics professor, Everett J. Urbach. Stationed in Washington D.C. during World War II, Everett and Kathi set up a studio in Maryland where Kathi began her artwork. Kathi’s initial works were all one-of-kind sculptures; she created these from heavy gauge wire frames. She molded the body and features then draped the figures in fabric that was treated with a solution that hardened to a ceramic consistency. Later she contracted with Goldcrest China company of Trenton, New Jersey, to produce a product line of glasses, ceramic bowls, sculptures and other items between the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Kathi Urbach also sold a lot of her work at the upscale department store Higbees and designed several pieces for Beswick Pottery. Beswick Mantle vase Kathi Uhrbach design
